Artist Interview

How would you describe your personal art style?
I love creating colorful compositions that connect, encourage, and give a moment of visual happiness. If I can brighten or spark joy with my art, that's the plan! I like to think I'm "in the business of making happy things!"
Name 3 things that sparked your creativity as a child?
Ed Emberly's Big Green Drawing Book, Shel Silverstein's "A Light in the Attic," and anything Jim Henson and The Muppets!
What has your career path been so far?
I've spent the past 25 years as a product designer. Being an Illustration major, this was a natural fit! I've designed seasonal gift and home decor collections, illustrated mylar balloons, worked with licensed artists, and designed party good products. Through the launch of own little studio Katy Ellis Art and Design I've been freelancing for the past several years with all the same great companies I've worked for! And recently expanded into Art Licensing with my own personal art brand and design style in the Baby and Everyday genre.
What do you look forward to most as the artist behind Katy Ellis Art and Design?
Building a positive brand and putting energy into all the things I've had creative visions for since I was a kid! The hope is to build something meaningful, and creatively connect the world in an inclusive, purposeful, put more good in the world kind of way!
What would you say your personal motto is?
Be humble, be kind and ALWAYS have a sense of humor!!!
